Buyers guide for winter scarves

Posted on10 Months ago by 184

Winter is almost here! And unlike most other things in life, there are lots of options to choose from when it comes to your warm, cosy winter wrap or shawl. With so many different varieties available, making the right choice could mean that you have to learn from mistakes... but don't worry, we have you covered (literally :p). With our guide below, you won't have to learn from mistakes before you buy what's best for you.

Most Common Types of Winter scarves that we find in online shops

Knitted wool scarves

Wool yarn quality is really important. Softness, touch and weight depends on the yarn features. Mix of acrylic and wool also popular.

+ Insulation from cold

- Relatively less popular than its counterparts

- Can be quite expensive based on method of production

100% Natural wool scarves (blends)

+ Fine, Merino, Cashmere and Pashmina: very soft touch and good insulation

+ Environment friendly

+ Most premium category in wool scarves

- Relatively expensive

100% Synthetic (Man-made) scarves

+ Acrylic is a soft, lightweight material: an alternative to natural wool

+ Relatively cheap to buy

+ Widely present across all brands

- Durability, warmth, texture: not as good as natural fiber based scarves

- Relatively less environment friendly

Natural Wool + Synthetic (2+3) scarves

Many types of blends possible e.g. Merino Wool + Polyester, Natural Wool + Acrylic etc.

+ Warmth and texture: close to natural fiber based scarves

+ Relatively cheap to buy; value for money

- Relatively less environment friendly

- Not as good as cashmere and pashminas

Note: We have specifically excluded fur/faux fur scarves from the discussion scope
